Village offices will be closed tomorrow, Friday June 19th 2020, in observance of Juneteenth.

Village officials invite the public to honor Juneteenth by joining us for a re-dedication of a plaque for Julia Jackson at 7:00 PM on Friday evening. This is a virtual online event that you can tune into here: https://youtu.be/Ij9VLGv5Z0M

This Juneteenth marks the 155th anniversary of the official announcement on June 19, 1865 that freed nearly a quarter-million enslaved people in Texas—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Yesterday, June 17, 2020, Governor Cuomo issued an Executive Order declaring Juneteenth an official holiday, and announced that the state will advance legislation to mark Juneteenth as an official holiday in perpetuity. Please read Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order No. 204 in full, here.
